Professional Discipline & Regulation

Regulatory intervention can be disastrous for a professional person’s career, and we understand the enormous stress which accusations of professional misconduct can cause. We also understand the importance of giving realistic advice early on, with a view to mitigating, where possible, the potentially damaging impact of a complaint. Our regulatory expertise is especially strong in the areas of healthcare and education.

Hardwicke’s barristers have been involved in often lengthy proceedings before the following bodies: General Medical Council, General Optical Council, General Osteopathic Council, General Teaching Council, Health Professions Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ophthalmic Imaging Association and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.

We also sit on a variety of professional bodies, such as the Bar Standards Board’s Disciplinary Panels and the Sports Dispute Panel. Our barristers hold positions as Standing Counsel to Independent Midwives UK; and Standing Counsel for British Cycling and British Triathlon.
