Helena accepts instructions in all areas of our work and has a particular interest in personal injury and clinical negligence. She appears regularly in court on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants in trials on liability and quantum, as well as in disposal hearings, interim applications, MOJ Stage 3 hearings, costs matters and case management hearings.
Helena started third six pupillage in October 2017 following a pupillage at a leading commercial and common law set, Crown Office Chambers. During her 12 month pupillage she gained experience in all aspects of personal injury including industrial disease, clinical negligence, inquests, employer’s and occupier’s liability, as well as in construction law, insurance law and regulatory law. Helena has experience advising and drafting pleadings in matters on all civil tracks and has significant experience in credit hire matters.
Helena has volunteered at the Free Representation Unit and at the South Westminster Legal Advice Centre where she dealt primarily with matters relating to consumer law.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Helena was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for the Humanities and Health at King’s College London, and a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Examiner in the Department of Philosophy. Helena’s postgraduate research and teaching centred on bioethics and global health justice. She has spoken on these topics at the University of California, Berkeley and Columbia University, New York.
