Mini Pupillage
What is a mini-pupillage?
Mini-pupillage is work experience with a barrister. It involves shadowing a barrister and observing their work. If the barrister goes to court, then so will you, if there are papers to do, or a conference to attend, then you will be involved in that too.
It is your opportunity to find out about the profession first hand to enable you to make an informed decision about whether it is what you want to do for a career.
Most, if not all, chambers, when looking at an application for pupillage will expect to find that the applicant has completed at least a couple of mini-pupillages.
What to expect as a Hardwicke mini-pupil
We offer mini-pupillages of up to a week in duration and what you will be doing each day will vary enormously depending on the area of law you are working in and, to some extent, on the barrister you are shadowing.
You may be required to meet a barrister at court, or in chambers and you are likely to spend time with more than one barrister during your time with us to ensure that you experience a good variety of work.
You will almost certainly go to court at some point, definitely see chambers and meet barristers. You may also be able to sit in on a conference or help a barrister with research or advisory work.
