A number of our member have special expertise in marine insurance, both in relation to policy coverage issues and insurance-backed work. Members work for top P&I Clubs, often directly, and for leading specialist solicitors firms and are recommended in the Legal 500.

We advise regularly on Institute and International standard forms for hull, freight, and cargo, as well as bespoke policies. Our work covers all issues particular to marine insurance, including constructive total loss, seaworthiness, valued policies, scuttling and fraudulent claims generally, deviation, delay and change of voyage, sue and labour clauses, piracy, war and political risks.

We work with floating policies and open covers, and ship builder’s all risk policies, and reinsurance of marine risks.

As with all insurance practitioners at Hardwicke, our marine insurance specialists deal with coverage and avoidance issues, causation, aggregation, limits, retentions and deductibles, as part of their core practices.

We also specialise in professional negligence claims against insurance professionals, including brokers, members agents, and other intermediaries. We also specialise in claims for personal injury on board and on the dockside.
