Central & Local Government

Departments of central government and local authorities regularly face legal challenges in the courts by way of judicial review, by individuals, pressure groups, professional associations and companies. Government departments may face challenges to their policies, guidance and regulations. Hardwicke regularly advise and represent both claimants and for defendants in these types of case.

Local authorities may face challenges concerning the scope of their duties and powers, community care decisions, education, housing, local byelaws and the vires of their transactions.  Such challenges may additionally involve issues of EU or human rights law.
