Over the last 20 years Charles has developed a practice specialising in planning and transportation particularly in relation to highways. He is one of the most experienced members of the bar currently practicing in this field and has experience as `leading junior` as well as being sole counsel.
Charles also has experience of major commercial litigation, arbitration and adjudication.

Charles’ Property & Private Client practice focuses on planning and transportation work with a particular emphasis on highway related matters.
Planning Law
Charles has acted in over thirty of the major road inquiries during this time and has advised on the associated planning and environmental issues. He is currently advising the Secretary of State for Transport in relation to the A14 Ellington to Fen Ditton scheme and in relation to the M1 widening scheme J21-30.

PUBLIC LAW
Charles’ Public Law practice includes the work he carries out for both central and local government in relation to planning and transportation matters.
Central & Local Government
Amongst other clients Charles has acted regularly for various departments of Government through the Treasury Solicitor. Between 1996-2001 he was instructed in a long-running case for the Secretary of State for Defence in an arbitration over a building dispute at Abbey Wood in Bristol. He was led by Professor John Uff QC. During 2005/6 he represented the Secretary of State for the Home Department in a substantial contract dispute involving an immigration detention centre.
