Charitable Giving

Hardwicke gives to a wide range of organisations through individual donations and charitable activities.

We help charities raise money by playing a part in a variety of activities such as walks across London, dragon boat races, marathons, bake sales and bike riding contests. We also hold quiz nights which raise money for people in need, and some of our barristers donate their fees for giving talks to charity.

Recent examples of our activities include:

  • London Legal Walk - London Legal Support Trust

Every year, a team from Hardwicke walks the London Legal Walk organised by the London Legal Support Trust in aid of legal charities including the Bar Pro Bono Unit, the Personal Support Unit and the Free Representation Unit.

  • The Child Brain Injury Trust - Art Exhibition hosted at Bolt Burdon Kemp Solicitors

Barristers and Staff attended an event in July 2015 at the offices of Bolt Burdon Kemp Solicitors to raise money for The Child Brain Injury Trust. It was a very special event involving an art exhibition by children with acquired brain injury. Two of the young artists were at the event which raised over £3,000 for the charity. We submitted a successful bid for a painting and we are delighted to be able to hang the painting in chambers.

  • Operation Christmas Child - Shoebox Appeal with Kennedys

Barristers and staff at Hardwicke were delighted to contribute to Kennedys' Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Operation Christmas Child is the world's largest children's Christmas project, for which shoeboxes are filled with gifts and sent to children in some of the world's toughest areas.

The boxes contributed by Hardwicke and Kennedys were sent to Swaziland, which has the highest prevalence of HIV in the world, and 70% of its population live below the poverty line. Operation Christmas Child this year filmed and broadcast the shoebox distribution live, bringing the initiative even closer to those who volunteered and donated.

  • Moonwalk 2012

A team of barristers and staff walked the MoonWalk, trekking 26.1 miles through London in the middle of the night, wearing Hardwicke branded bras, to raise money to fight breast cancer.

  • Hardwicke donates furniture to the Nelson Trust

As a result of our recent refurbishment, the existing library and reception furniture were no longer required, and we were pleased to have found a new home for it at The Nelson Trust, one of the UK’s longest established drug and alcohol abstinence-based treatment providers. The Trust works with some of the most complex substance misusers and helps hundreds of people overcome their addiction and build a life of independence.

Our library contained a number of high quality chairs and desks, and our reception room for clients had leather sofas and glass coffee tables, which have now been donated to The Nelson Trust.  We are delighted that this furniture will be put to good use by the Trust, and to have found a green solution for recycling it at the same time.

  • Regular bake sales

Hardwicke is home to a number of keen bakers, who regularly produce baked goods to raise money for charities including such as Macmillan, Shelter and the London Legal Support Trust.

  • Dress for charity: Jeans, something pink and loud shirts...

It doesn't always have to be a suit and tie at Hardwicke. We like to join the fun and raise money by wearing jeans to work for Jeans for Genes, put on something pink for Breast Cancer Campaign, or wear a loud shirt (well, that's just because we're Hardwicke).
