We are delighted to welcome three new members to Hardwicke, having offered them tenancy after successful completion of their pupillage.
Caoimhe McKearney acted as junior counsel to John de Waal QC in a 12-day Chancery Division trial concerning a dispute over interests in property in England and an alleged partnership/joint venture agreement in Dubai. She also represented two tenants in their successful counterclaim for disrepair against a private landlord and assisted senior members of chambers with drafting pleadings in a high-value construction case. Caoimhe will be joining our Property Team.
Rupert Cohen, who will also be working mainly with our Property Team, acted for a major bank in a summary judgment appeal in front of HHJ Mitchell at Central London County in relation to the withdrawal of a mortgage offer worth £140,000. He worked with John de Waal QC on an appeal to the Court of Appeal in a case dealing with the test for 'manifest error' in an expert determination. He also advised on the enforceability of restrictive covenants over land on which the lay client sought to build a number of properties.
Charlie Thompson will be a new member of our Construction Team. He assisted Paul Reed QC in an urgent application for the sequential disclosure of experts' reports in a TCC case worth £38m. He also helped advise on and prepare an application for judicial review in a commercial matter with PJ Kirby QC. Further, he has drafted numerous documents for use in payment adjudications and had successful conduct of a property damage matter for a maintenance contractor in the Central London County Court.
We congratulate them on their success and look forward to working together to build and develop their practices. Hardwicke goes from strength to strength, and we are delighted these three new appointments enable us to provide an even greater value service to our clients.
