3rd Six Pupillage

As part of our process of recruiting exceptional tenants, we also consider applications from exceptional candidates for a 3rd six month pupillage. We will advertise any 3rd six vacancies on this page. If you make an application when there is no vacancy available, we may invite you to re-submit your application when a vacancy becomes available so that your application can be considered alongside other 3rd six applicants.

We are looking for bright ambitious practitioners who can supplement our existing teams and contribute to chambers. In this regard, what we are looking for is similar to that for 12 month pupils but with a proven track record at your previous set.

We divide our 3rd six pupillage in to two three-month periods and you will be allotted a pupil supervisor in each period. We also allocate a panel of six assessors (including your pupil supervisors) for whom you will work during your 3rd six in addition to your own court work. This panel will give you feedback on the work that you have done and their views will be taken into account in any tenancy application. 

We encourage our 3rd sixers to take part in our internal pupillage advocacy training and we find that as well as developing your own skills, your previous experience is helpful in developing all of our pupils. We are proud of our 3rd six system and we have recruited the majority of our 3rd sixers in the past 5 years.

We understand that you may be in competition with one or more of our 12 month pupils for a place in chambers. We only advertise for 3rd sixers where there is an identified need in one of our specialist teams and our pupillage policy does not prefer one type of pupil over another. You will be considered and assessed on the same criteria.
